Nous vous proposons le samedi 12 Octobre à 10H15 au MAD une visite privée de l'exposition "MODERNE MAHARAJAH, UN MÉCÈNE DES ANNÉES 1930"
Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs met à l’honneur l’extraordinaire figure du maharajah d’Indore qui donne libre cours à son goût d’avant-garde artistique et décorative en créant, en Inde, un univers moderne unique. Personnalité visionnaire du milieu culturel européen des années 1920-1930, il est le commanditaire de la toute première construction moderniste de son pays : le palais Manik Bagh (1930-1933), témoignage de l’effervescence de la scène artistique de l’époque.
L’exposition met en lumière l’univers de cette demeure mythique évoquant les échanges entre l’Europe et l’Inde à travers la personnalité singulière et fascinante d’un jeune prince et de son épouse. Présenté dans la nef du musée, ce prestigieux patrimoine rassemble plus de 500 pièces réunies pour la première fois. Il dévoile les créations iconiques de Louis Sognot et Charlotte Alix, Jean Puiforcat, Eileen Gray ou encore Le Corbusier ainsi que des archives inédites dans une scénographie confiée au studio BGC – Giovanna Comana et Iva Berton Gajsak.

On Saturday, October 12th at 10.15 am, we invite you to take part to a private visit of the exhibition "MODERNE MAHARAJAH, UN MÉCÈNE DES ANNÉES 1930".
From September 26, 2019 to January 12, 2020, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs will pay tribute to the extraordinary life of the Maharaja of Indore, an Indian prince whose passion for the avantgarde led him to assemble one of the most important private collections of Modernist furniture and decorative arts in the world. This visionary patron of the arts became a central figure of the international elite and the European cultural milieu of the 1920s and 1930s. In 1930, he ordered the construction of the Manik Bagh Palace in his homecity of Indore, India, embracing the architectural techniques of the European Modernist movement and decorating the palace with designs by Modernist icons including Louis Sognot and Charlotte Alix, Jean Puiforcat, Eileen Gray and Le Corbusier. Moderne Maharajah, un mécène des années 1930 will showcase over 500 objects from the Manik Bagh Palace, evoking the artistic exchanges that existed between Europe and India thanks to the singular and legendary taste of the Maharaja of Indore. Presented in the Central Hall of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, these 500 pieces of Modern design will be exhibited together for the first time, alongside never-before-seen archival materials that document the legacy of the Maharaja and Maharani of Indore.
